Kidney or renal ailments may become a chronic problem over time and may lead to complete kidney damage or kidney failure if not detected on time. Our kidneys contain millions of tiny structures called nephrons which filter the blood, remove wastes and extra water which in turn becomes urine. Most kidney diseases attack the nephrons.
Â
Ongoing kidney problems, including kidney stones may build up fluids and waste in the body, which may lead nausea, vomiting, trouble sleeping, weakness, muscle cramps, shortness of breath and oedema that may get worse with time and cause the kidney to stop functioning. Kidney failure can be a serious and life-threatening condition that requires dialysis. The main functions of the kidneys are to balance minerals and water, remove waste, other impurities and excess water, regulate pH and blood pressure and these functions get hampered when the kidneys are damaged.
Â
Some common symptoms related to renal problems are: protein and blood in urea, kidney stones, kidney injury, kidney inflammation and pain. Kidney problems may affect blood cleaning and filtration process. Kidney damage may occur due to high blood pressure, heart disease, old age, genetics, polycystic kidney disorder, diseases like lupus and diabetes, chemotherapy, poor diet, allopathic analgesics and toxicity.
